Questions

What people ask before they use this tool.

Can I choose where page numbers appear?
Yes. Use the visual position picker to place numbers in any of six positions: top-left, top-center, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, or bottom-right. The live preview updates instantly so you can see exactly where the number will land.
Can I skip numbering certain pages?
Yes. Set "Skip first N pages" to any number — for example, skip 1 to leave your cover page unnumbered, or skip 2 to also exclude a table of contents. Numbering starts after the skipped pages.
What number formats are available?
Five formats: simple number (1, 2, 3), "Page 1 of 12" with total count, compact "1/12", Roman numerals (i, ii, iii), and custom starting numbers.
Can I customize the font size and color?
Yes. Use the font size slider (8-24pt) and the color picker to match your document style. The live preview shows exactly how the numbers will look.
Is there a file size or page limit?
No hard limit. The tool works entirely in your browser, so performance depends on your device. Most PDFs process in seconds.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Page numbering happens in your browser using JavaScript, and your files are not uploaded to our servers during processing.
How is this different from adding page numbers in Word or Acrobat?
Word and Acrobat are broader document tools, while this tool focuses on adding page numbers to an existing PDF in a browser workflow. The trade-off is that it uses Helvetica for numbering rather than matching custom document fonts.
Can I number multiple PDFs at once?
Yes. Drop multiple PDF files onto the upload area. The same position, format, and style settings are applied to all files. Download each result individually.
Can I use "Page X of Y" format?
Yes. Select "Page 1 of 12" from the number format dropdown. The total count is calculated automatically per document.
Will adding page numbers change the page content?
No. The tool draws numbers in the margin area of each page. Your existing content, images, and text remain untouched.
What if I need to merge files after numbering?
Number each file first, then use our PDF Merger to combine them. Or merge first, then add page numbers to the combined document for continuous numbering.
Can I remove page numbers from a PDF?
This tool only adds numbers — it cannot remove existing ones. Page numbers are drawn directly onto the PDF page, so once saved they become part of the content.
Does this work with landscape-oriented pages?
Yes. The tool detects each page's dimensions and places the number accordingly. Top/bottom and left/right positions work correctly on both portrait and landscape pages.
