Questions

What people ask before they use this tool.

How does face blur detection work?
The tool uses the FaceDetector Web API built into Chrome and Edge browsers to automatically locate faces in your image. On unsupported browsers, you can manually draw blur regions by clicking and dragging on the image. All processing runs entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server.
Can I adjust the blur strength?
Yes. Use the Blur Strength slider to set any value from 5 to 80 pixels. A higher value creates a stronger blur that makes faces completely unrecognizable. You can preview the effect in real time before downloading.
Can I choose which faces to blur?
Yes. After auto-detection, each face gets a numbered overlay. Click on individual faces to toggle blur on or off. You can also add manual blur regions by clicking "Add Region" and drawing on the image.
What if auto-detect misses a face?
Click "Add Region" to switch to manual mode, then click and drag on the image to draw an elliptical blur region over the missed face. You can resize or delete any region afterward.
What output formats are supported?
You can export as PNG (lossless), JPEG, or WebP. For JPEG and WebP, a quality slider lets you balance file size and image quality from 10% to 100%.
Is there a file size or resolution limit?
There is no hard limit since processing happens entirely in your browser. Very large images (50MP+) may be slower on older devices.
Is my image data private?
Face detection and blurring are done in your browser using native browser APIs and the Canvas API. Image files are not uploaded to our servers during processing.
Does face auto-detection work on all browsers?
Auto-detection uses the FaceDetector API, which is currently supported in Chrome and Edge. On Firefox and Safari, you can still use the manual "Add Region" mode to draw blur areas by hand. The blur effect itself works everywhere.
Can I blur objects other than faces?
Yes. The "Add Region" tool lets you draw elliptical blur regions over any area — license plates, addresses, sensitive text, logos, or anything else you need to hide.
Does this work on mobile phones?
Yes. Both auto-detection and manual drawing work with touch input. The blur strength slider and region toggles are fully touch-friendly. Chrome on Android supports auto-detection; on iOS Safari, use manual mode.
How does this compare to Photoshop or dedicated privacy tools?
Photoshop is a broader desktop editor, while this tool is focused on fast face blurring in the browser. Hosted privacy tools often use server processing, whereas this workflow keeps image files off our servers during processing.
Can I blur faces and then compress the image?
Yes. Download the blurred image, then run it through our Image Compressor to reduce file size. Or choose JPEG/WebP output format with a lower quality setting for smaller files directly.
Can I remove the background instead of blurring faces?
For background removal, use our Background Remover which uses AI to isolate the foreground subject. The Blur Face tool is specifically designed for privacy protection by obscuring identifiable features.
